Jason Silvestri Talks About What We All Do For 3 Minutes of Film

It is funny how we all do what we need to do for 3 minutes of film. It doesn’t matter if you are the software engineer, the designer, a waitress or florist, the producer, the director, the actor and actress, we all go to great lengths to win in our professions don’t we? This post is about a real-life transformation I went through for literally 3 mins of film, and how I am glad I was able to contribute to the project even with all the chaos, especially now that 3/5 of the people involved are no longer with us.

It is funny how we all do what we need to do for 3 minutes of film. It doesn’t matter if you are the software engineer, the designer, a waitress or florist, the producer, the director, the actor and actress, we all go to great lengths to win in our professions don’t we? This post is about a real-life transformation I went through for literally 3 mins of film (as shown in the image above), and how I am glad I was able to contribute to the project even with all the chaos, especially now that 3/5 of the people involved are no longer with us. The more I think about it, the more I appreciate the corny, but meaningful effort on all our parts.
The Cast
Several friends and I, like many, had a YouTube channel. For us, several years ago. The whole idea was that we were a group of people that would often film our experiences, from concerts, to paranormal, and bike week and beyond. We actually started getting really good at interacting with famous bands, explore interesting places, etc. Still, we only ever got to 65,000 views overall on our videos before members of our team would literally pass, and we just became lost. In fact, we wanted to convey that with our latest season premiere trailer, by doing a cast away sequence with some of team members. I was casted as the star of the trailer, and at a time I must add, that I was a very clean cut & shaved, suit and tie software developer in a strict dress code setting.
I spent the next 5 months without shaving, no hair cut, and even lost 20 lbs for the part. Not only did I hear it in the work place 10 fold, you would not believe the neighborhood gossip that would go around, loved ones who have not seen you in a year worried about your health, even though you try to explain it is all for 3 mins of film we plan to incorporate into our new season trailer. Hahaha. It was unbelievable.
The point of this short story is to say that when it comes to doing whatever it takes to make a project work, more of us than not do our own version of what we need to do for that 3 mins of film. As long as you are always willing to do just that, unconditionally, no matter how long you have been in your industry sector, and you will continue to be a valuable asset to your team.
In Closing
There is actually more I want to add to this story and I will. I am currently pursing a particular role and the production company is not only well respected, but are too constantly winning at producing that 3 mins of film. The hunt reminded me of a time you now know.
